19 November 2009. Upcoming events: Christmas Cocktails (2 December) and Alumni Harbour Cruise (4 December). These two events cap off a successful year for the wider college community. The legendary Cocktails event is held at the Almgren Centre from 5pm on Wednesday 2 December. Good parking is available on site. RSVP would be helpful to Sarah Brown easst@dlc.nsw.edu.au.
The Alumni Harbour Cruise is being coordinated by Dr Ben Odgers, a member of the Alumni Advisory Group. It's on Friday night, 4 December, 7.30-10.30pm, costs $50, leaves from Aquarium Wharf, Darling Harbour, and you must pay by Thursday 27 November. For details go to
18 November 2009. Launching the new John Dunmore Lang Achievement Fellowships for 2010! Just launched in the national papers last weekend - a creative initiative from the College. Two $10,000 fellowships plus free accommodation! The College invites applications from outstanding achievers (in any field, academic or otherwise) who can build on that achievement while sharing in the life of the College. 8 November 2009. New for 2010. The College Board has now passed the budget for 2010 and 'learning, leadership and service' will be further developed. The College's academic program will be expanded, with more tutorials and exam review sessions, new academic literacy and conversation classes, support for postgraduate residents. These will reinforce our learning goals and strengthen DLC's academic grades which continue to rise over the last six semesters.
4 November 2009. DLC wins the 2009 Inter-collegiate Sports Trophy! The men's water polo team added the final points needed to confirm that DLC is the winner of this year's sports trophy between DLC, Robert Menzies College and the Village. It went down to the final event, but is now secure in DLC's fit hands! See here for the final results. Resident Tutorships for 2010. Applications are now open for those wishing to apply for the position of Resident Tutor for 2010. RTs provide free academic support of many types to residents, especially first-year students. Applications close 5pm, Wednesday 11 November and are open to people not currently in residence. Scholarships and other Awards for 2010. The website now has full details of the many awards on offer for 2010, especially for new residents, whether undergraduates or postgraduates. Applications close 5pm Friday 11 December. College support for indigenous students and those from rural and remote areas, or low SES. DLC welcomes applications from such students and we direct them to specific financial support relevant to their needs (our 'Step Forward' awards). 2009 College Musical. This stunning event, held two weekends ago, was a sensational success. Congratulations in particular to Directors Kendall Feaver and Glen Rose, Kat Pickering (sets), the Band ...! It will be available in due course on DVD. Great to see so many parents and family members at the pre-musical Cocktail Party at Dorothy Knox House.
