Students

Dunmore Lang College provides a multicultural diverse academic community of full-time undergraduates and postgraduates. College members come from all over the world as well as within Australia to study at Macquarie University and its associated feeder institutions - Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT) and the Centre for Macquarie English (CME). Some students apply for a semester on an international exchange program, but the majority choose to stay for several years.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students come to Dunmore Lang College from country areas of New South Wales, from interstate, overseas, and from within Sydney. Many undergraduates enter Dunmore Lang College in their first year of university, and some stay for three or four years or even longer! These students choose to stay because they have made firm friends and relationships within the College and realise the many benefits which college life gives to enhancing their academic progress. At any one time the College has students doing a range of degrees in all of the University's four faculties - from Accounting and Finance to Chiropractic Science, Media, Politics and International Relations. Dunmore Lang prides itself on the diversity of its students - different backgrounds, different degrees and different talents. We all work together to build a secure, fun and academic community in which our students can develop their learning, leadership and service.
Postgraduate Students
Dunmore Lang College welcomes postgraduate students to come and enjoy the benefits of an independent, trouble free lifestyle with all the support that a large residential College can provide. Postgraduate students enjoy the community lifestyle and take advantage of living on the University campus and accessing its many facilities. They include students undertaking research degrees such as a PhD, coursework Masters and postgraduate diplomas. Approximately 20% of our members are postgraduate students.
In 2009 the College launched a first for the University - a tailored self-catered postgraduate precinct in College apartments at 159 Herring Road, to be extended to 2 apartments in 163 Herring Road in 2010. At 159 there are be twenty-two self-catered places for postgraduate students in fourteen apartments, adding to the twenty-five or so postgraduate students who choose fully-catered accommodation. At 163 we will be adding a further 2 bedroom apartment and a one bedroom apartment. Many postgraduate students apply for and are selected as Resident Tutors at the College. This enables them to develop their mentoring and tutoring skills, deepen and impart their knowledge and assist undergraduate members with assignments and examination preparations. They remember only too well what life was like as an undergraduate!
Each term the Principal hosts Graduate Drinks in his residence, Dorothy Knox House, and takes the opportunity to introduce postgraduate students to College Fellows, University and business leaders. These activities help reduce some of the stresses of postgraduate study, make for a fuller academic experience and strengthen individual networks for the future.
International Students
Dunmore Lang College welcomes all international students to make the College their home during their course of their study. Students enjoy the wide mix of students within the College community. This certainly fast-tracks solving many of the practical challenges of entering a new country to study, rather than having to solve them by yourself. You are surrounded by fellow students who face similar challenges and are eager to help. Being in College also accelerates making friends, enjoying community activities and appreciate different cultures. These are invaluable now and also as you begin a career, in a global workplace.
Many of the current International students make it their priority to help new students adapt to the life and culture of Australia. Dunmore Lang provides academic support for non-native English speakers as well as a strong support network. As a resident of the College you can apply for many of the Scholarships, student positions (Resident Tutor or Resident Adviser) and work within the college as an intern, Computer Support or Media Liaison.
