How do I apply for college?

I'm not 18 yet. Can I still apply to stay in college?

Yes, you can. 

   

Can I defer my offer of a room for a year (or two)?

Yes. You can. Please advise the Registrar on [email protected] as soon as possible.

   

How long does it take for an application to be approved?

If you have uploaded all the documentation and had your interview it takes less than a week for your application to be approved.  

   

Can my partner and/or friend & I book a twin room to save costs? 

All of our rooms are single occupancy. We do not offer any twin rooms to undergraduate students. Postgraduate students living at the Dunmore Lang apartments (159 Herring Road) can share their room with a partner for a set rate extra.

   

Can my friend stay overnight in my room with me if they are visiting?

Yes. But only for a night or two.

   

Can my friend or sibling stay in my room during the holidays? 

No. Rooms are let to conference guests during the holidays and the income earnt goes towards keeping the room cost as low as possible for students.

   

How much does it cost to stay in College?

It depends on your room type.  Please see our Fees Schedule. 

   

How do I pay my college fees?

You can pay your College accommodation fees in one of two ways:

1. Pay upfront for the whole year or by the Semester.

2. Pay by Edstart.

   

Do I get any refund if I move out of the college before my contract finishes? 

No. If you break your contract you will forfeit your deposit and will have to give 12 weeks notice.

   

Can I arrive at college before move-in day?

Yes. However, you will pay a daily rate for each day prior to move-in day.

What if I need to cancel my application? 

If you cancel your application before the cut-off date you will receive a full refund.

If you cancel after the cut-off date you will forfeit your accommodation deposit.

   

Can I live at college and cook my own food?

Not if you are an undergraduate student. The College is fully catered.

If you are a postgraduate student and live in the Dunmore Lang College apartments at 159 Herring Road you self-cater.  You can choose to pay for meals for an extra fee.

   

What do I need to bring with me? 

You should bring the following items with you:

  • decorations for your room
  • BluTak to stick your decorations up (you must take all the decorations and BluTak off your walls at the end of the year)
  • a doona and doona cover
  • a towel
  • as crockery and cutlery must stay in the Dining Hall, bring a plate, fork, bowl, knife, fork, spoon, mug and glass to use in your room
  • a nice outfit for special dinners.

   

Is there parking available at the college?

No. We have very limited parking at College which is reserved for some of our student leaders.  Very reasonably priced University parking is available a short walk from College. 

   

Can my parents park in the carpark if they are visiting me? 

Generally yes. Please come to Reception to ask.

   

Can I park in the carpark if I can't find a park in the surrounding area?

No. Unfortunately, College is not able to offer parking to students other than to some student leaders. The University has very reasonably priced parking. 

   

How do I book one of the GoGet cars at college? 

The College has two GoGet cars parked at the front of College.  You can book one by going to this link.

   

Is there WIFI at college? 

Yes. The University provides unlimited WIFI to students at College.

   

Can I work for the office to help pay my way? 

Unfortunately, we have very little casual work available for students.  

There is often work available at the University and the Macquarie Shopping Centre.

   

Can I smoke cigarettes at college? 

No. Dunmore Lang College and Macquarie University are both smoke free environments. You can't smoke on campus including eCigarettes.

   

Can I choose my room?

Not if you are a first-year student.

Returning students are able to request a room preference and although we try our best to allocate the student a room of their choice we are unable to guarantee that we can give the student a room they have requested.

   

How do I request a room change? 

Come to Reception and collect a ‘Room Change Request’ form.

   

What if something is not working in my room?

Use the Application Portal (where you applied to come to College) or the College App to submit a maintenance request through the Maintenance tab.  

   

How do I book my room during university breaks?

You will receive a form via email from the admissions team about your check-out date.  Please complete this and return it to Reception by the due date.

   

Can I store my things during the semester break?

If you will be returning to College in the next Semester you can store a small quantity of your belongings in the store room on your floor.  Your room will need to be completed vacated.

If you are vacating College then you will need to take everything with you.

   

What will my mailing address be?
