because enabling access to university study changes lives

At Dunmore Lang College we provide a safe and secure environment for students on campus where they become part of a community.  The College provides 24 hour pastoral care, academic assistance, opportunities to participate in sporting, social and cultural activities as well as rigorous leadership programmes and training, and extensive orientation and transition programmes to university study and life.

To support this, the College works closely with donors and Macquarie University to provide scholarships (academic merit based) and bursaries (needs based) for students from rural and regional areas, first in family and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds to access not only the life-changing impacts of university study but to do this within the safety and support offered by the Dunmore Lang College community and programmes.

Our award winning programmes have been recognised by both Macquarie University and the Asia Pacific Student Accommodation Association, the peak body for our industry.  In 2017 our Principal, Dr Alasdair Murrie-West was the inaugural recipient of the Macquarie University Reconciliation Award and in 2019 the College was awarded the 2019 APSAA Excellence Award in Student Accommodation under 500 beds.

Not having to worry about the financial burden of living out of home while studying, having the support of a diverse but close-knit community and knowing that I was supported and encouraged throughout my degree, allowed me to focus on my studies and perform to the best of my ability.

Dunmore Lang College caters primarily for rural and regional students who are first in family, low SES, Indigenous or coping with financial and personal hardship.  In 2019 70% of our cohort was from rural and regional NSW and 20% of our students were Indigenous.

We provide academic and personal support to all students as well as work-ready and leadership skills training.

The results of our support are:

  • consistently higher GPAs than the Macquarie University cohort
  • 95% completion rate of university studies
  • 95% graduation rate

In the last five years the College has supported 245 students financially to access university and study in a safe, supportive and secure environment.  That is 16% of our students.  We want to increase this so that we can financially support at least 50% of our students by 2025.

We will need your help to do this.
